Last Saturday night, the Colts beat down the Texans, 21-7.
Who else got notifications from various sports media outlets
after the game about the Colts managing to manhandle the Texans and what the
Chiefs could possibly do to stop that from happening to them?
I may have only live in Kansas City for two years but I am
very familiar with the Chiefs’ well-documented and troubled history with the
playoffs, especially the first round (having not won the divisional round since
1994) and especially against the Colts.
Have no fear, football fanz, I do not predict the coming of
the boogieman to Arrowhead stadium.
While the season could end this weekend in the divisional
round - a heartbreak Chiefs’ fans are all too familiar with - it could also
end, with the league MVP, hoisting the Lombardi trophy above his head, and bringing
it home to Kansas City for the first time in 50 years. I fully believe this
Chiefs’ team is more equipped to handle the playoffs than previous teams.
However it ends, I want it held in the heart of every fan
who’s ever put on a Chiefs’ shirt on a Sunday that this season has already been
a season to remember. For me, the Chiefs couldn’t have gifted me a more of a
magical season. Mahomes magical. (If I dare to be so cheesy.)
When my children ask me about the 2018 Chiefs’ season I will
tell them about:
- Mahomes’ left-handed pass on 2nd and 30
- The Chiefs’ exorcising the demons against the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Mahomes’ The “no-look” pass to Demarcus Robinson
- The fearsome Monday Night Football game against divisional rivals, the Denver Broncos
- Mahomes’ virtually plucking a football out of a hat having it vanish and reappear 16 yards down field in Travis Kelce’s hands
- Mahomes’ 50th touchdown pass of the season from the Chiefs’ own 11 yard line - an 89 yard bomb down to Demarcus Robinson
- The Chiefs won back to back to back AFC west champs for the first time in franchise history to secure the #1 seed in the playoffs
Most of all, I will tell them the personal connection our
family has to this magical season.
- “The Voice of the Chiefs” Mitch Holthus coming to Alphapointe, meeting meet me and my coworkers, and learning about the great work Alphapointe does
- My Chiefs’ training camp visit where I met Travis Kelce
- Being honored as the Blue KC Chiefs Kingdom Champion at the October 21 game against the Bengals where I threw out the first pass
- Walking through the Chiefs’ tunnel at Arrowhead and sitting next to Mitch Holthus in the booth and not from the speaker of my radio
- The NFL Network learning of the “Blind Quarterback” and his pals at Alphapointe and filming a television special that aired on Christmas night
- The special news I received on the day of my first Chiefs’ game that I was going to be a father again
- Sitting at the stands at the end of that game, my arm around the woman I love, both of us holding a beautiful wonderful secret just between the two of us and Arrowhead stadium
So many wonderful moments from this season both for the
Chiefs and for me personally. I think of those breathtaking moments played out by new
quarterback which came at least once a game if not more. I also think of connecting
with one of my heroes and someone I am proud to call a good friend - Mitch
Holthus, describing to me in astounding detail those moments, with the
excitement and thrill. for, “I live in a theater of the mind, and it is his job to
paint upon that canvas”
Thank you for all my faithful readers for making this season
that much more magical. The Blind Quarterback would not exist without his followers.
I promise this will not be the last you hear of the Blind
Quarterback.
Most importantly, thank you to Mitch Holthus, Andy Reid,
KC’s favorite quarterback son Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Kansas City
Chiefs for such an amazing 2018 season, one that I will hold so close and so
dearly to my heart for as long as I live.
Now, let’s get ready to host the Colts. Here’s to whipping
them in the playoffs and sending them packing with your BQB will be on hand
giving you my take on all the action.
